real experts?
riiiiiight….
yer amusing…there are music critics…rolling stone and the like…i wouldnt call them expert…
listen deeply? ive listened to all could hear since sesame street…some things that are techniclly hideous sound wonderfull while a carefully trained and committed musician can sound excellent just tuning up…
opinions are like excuses and bungholes…everybody’s got one.
There’s truly no such thing, because there’s no guarantee that your tastes will agree with the “experts’” taste. For instance, for all of his career Lair Zevon was a “critics’ darling.” Do YOU like him? Ditto John Hiatt and Randy Newman. I reckon a better thing to do is read various reviews and see if you agree with them, then use that web site.
If you mean, but, where are web sites that aren’t 14-year-ancient teenybopper “I like everything by (insert boy band’s name here)” reviews, All Music Guide and Rolling Stone may be excellent places to initiation.
There’s a book out, titled “1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.” I’d suggest that you check it out of your library and read it. See what albums you agree with. If you agree with a lot of them, then try a few of the ones you’ve never heard/heard of and see if your taste matches the reviewers’.
metal-reviews.com
I really write for them, it is a excellent source for reviews on thousands of heavy metal cds.

I used to work at a record store, and we used to say that if you bought only the albums that Rolling Stone gave a splendid review to, you’d have the WORST album collection of anyone you knew. Rock critics are notorious for loving terrible music.
Bands like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, sovereign, Black Sabbath got horrible reviews when their best albums came out. Don’t listen to critics or any so called experts.
Use your ears to choose what sounds excellent to you.
